TRENT AND I are dating. I still can’t believe it myself. For almost a month now, we’ve been going out, getting to know each other better. Even when we’re not together, we chat constantly.

The bank opened for business again, and I’m back behind the counter. Adri makes it clear she’s more shocked than I am that I’m dating Trent, and not in a good sense. But I’m cool with that.

Adri’s not a good friend. I’m not even sure I can call her that. But talking to Trent made me see a bunch of things I never expected.

I’m fine with not having loads of friends. The important thing is that the ones I have truly care about me.

Trent quickly became my best friend. He introduced me to his fellow firefighters and their girlfriends, and I hit it off with them. No one judges my weight and appearance. No one doubts me and complains about me being a quiet girl. They stop and listen when I have something to say.

It’s amazing how fast things changed. Trent makes me feel amazing, and he helped me notice I’m not amazing because I’m with him. I just am and never noticed.

So when Adri starts criticizing me, I cut her off. Not in a rude sense, but sharply, making it clear I’m not interested in her fatphobia or racism.

My manager, well... He’s not my manager anymore. I don’t know what happened to him, but he’s not in the bank anymore. Probably fired for what he did. Not to me, but to the bank.

The new manager is a tall lady with narrow eyes that gave me dread at first. But she’s smart and understandable, and she talks instead of screaming and criticizing. She also never blames me for things others did.

New times, indeed.

There’s only one tiny thing I’m not happy about.

It’s going to sound silly. Even crazy.

But Trent’s too respectful.

Wait, let me explain. What I mean is that... He gives me these kisses that set my soul on fire and that makes me feel more lust than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. Then he pulls back.

That’s slowly eating up on the self-esteem wall I built. It’s not that strong of a wall since it’s newly put up, but I wonder if he truly desires me. Or if he isn’t interested in taking things further.

Because I’d respect him if he didn’t want it, but... I kind of do. We’d probably have problems up in the road. Trent’s too hot, and my body reacts in close quarters to his. I adore his musky smell and the way his biceps shift. My fingers itch to run down his strong back, rake my nails down his abs, but the furthest I got was massaging his scalp.

He seemed to appreciate that, at least.

Tonight, I’m going to put him against the wall. Not literally. I don’t think I have that courage yet.

We’re in Trent’s place, and he’s cooked three types of food to make sure I’d like whatever I had.
